Isabela's spending her time ashore in Fereldan at a seedy establishment called the Pearl. It turns out a runaway mage (Anders) has come by, an apostate trying to escape what is essentially imprisonment because of the dangers mages pose to society in general. There's banter between the two and with the local girls -- particularly a girl with griffon tattoos who likes to call herself the Lay Warden -- and joking around inevitably strays toward putting a mage's talents to more creative and constructive uses than locking them up.
