Memory - Recruiting the most derpastic pirates.
The party's making their way through the dungeons of an estate, and come across a puzzling trio of arguing statues. On approaching, one voice addresses Isabela.
Pete: Yo ho. Ha ha ha.
Isabela: Who said that? What did you call me?
Pete: Captain Isabela, sir! Over here!
Isabela: ...That statue is talking to me. That statue is talking to me!
Pete: It's me, Paisely Pete! Crew of the Wicked Dancer. Helped you board that Nevarran brig.
Isabela: I remember your help. I also remember your Captain Maldene tried to claim all the booty.
Jan: Aye, and then Maldine put a curse on us, the scurvy bastard. Only another sea captain can lift it.
Hawke questions the trio for a bit, learning Maldine was a maleficar; the pirates had always thought Maldine's claims of cursing people were just BS. The pirates crossed him, and this is what happened. Hawke wonders if Isabela can still help them, since she's hardly a pirate captain right now - doesn't even have a crew. (She protests that she's got a ship again, the crew is next on the list. Pete spouts some romantic stuff about how a pirate captain is more than a ship and crew, she's a "force of nature." Isabela: "You hear that, Hawke? I'm a force of nature." Aveline: "So is plague.")
The trio had stolen a shiny dagger (The Dagger of the Four Winds) and broken it up in an idiotic attempt to divvy up their treasure. That's what triggered the curse. As for how the pirates ended up inland in a duke's estate...the duke placed them as a warning. "...Or, because it's funny." Isabela has to fix it to free them from the curse. Hawke makes fun of pirates and the overdramatic treasure names, and Isabela counters the drama makes it more fun to steal. "Everyone knows that."
Turns out it's jewels and a rusty old knife. The pirates urge Isabela to use it to free them, but she considers that she could just walk off with the treasure. See, once she's put it back together, the pirates reveal the next step requires that she give it away. "Let them what steal from rightful captains suffer for their greed. Only by captain's generosity can scabby bastards be freed." Isabela protests that she could be generous without giving up the dagger.
Hawke: I know it's pretty, Isabela, but it is a cursed relic.
Isabela: It's not cursed for me. That just makes it an ancient relic. And so pretty.
Hawke does convince Isabela to free them, and she does admit she can't just leave them there - but Isabela bellyaches about what a bad influence Hawke is being on her. Isabela throws the dagger away and proclaims she never wants to see it again. The stone crumbles off the pirates, and one of them swears they're her crew for life. Jan protests because she never agreed to anything like that. They promptly run off.
Isabela: Great. I lost a priceless dagger and gained three disloyal, thieving sea dogs.
Hawke: Not a total waste, then.
