Memory - Recruiting Hawke; "Fools Rush In"

Isabela is in the bar, The Hanged Man, drinking grumpily while a rogue and his two pals pester her. His name is Lucky, and he's insisting that even though his information was absolutely worthless, he's insisting Isabela owes him and his boys. Getting insulting about it, even, and getting in her space. So she slams his head into the bar a few times, beats up his boys a bit, and when Lucky finally goes for a blade, she beats him to the punch by putting her dagger to his throat. The men scurry away with metaphorical tucked tails, and Isabela resumes her drinking, having a chuckle while she watches them go.

This is when she spots Hawke and her party staring at the brawl; they chat, and Isabela decides the woman looks tough and sounds smart enough to be good enough to trust in a fight. She has a duel arranged with an old acquaintance who's going to be trouble, and she wants some backup on a hunch that he's not going to play fair. There's some banter, and they agree to meet up in Hightown at night.

Isabela arrives there first, and Hawke's party is second. No one else has shown up. It's more than a little suspicious. Finally, some hired blades show up to kill Isabela. The pirate and Hawke's party take care of them, and find written orders from Hayder, Isabela's acquaintance, that provide where to find him. They head out, with another scuffle in the streets along the way.

Hayder's holed up in the Chantry with more sellswords. He reveals that Isabela's in trouble with a guy named Castillon because she dumped a precious cargo, and now she's lost her ship and a precious relic she was supposed to retrieve. Isabela points out that she didn't dump a cargo, she freed slaves. Hawke tries to talk the man down, but Isabela decides she doesn't care for trying to reason with him, and starts hostilities by killing the fighter just to Hayder's right with a thrown dagger. The party ends up having to kill all of them.

Isabela claims to Hawke that it's best this way -- Castillon won't hear from Hayder that Isabela is still around and still making no progress on recovering the relic Castillon wants. He'll find out sooner or later, but it buys her time. She tells Hawke about the slaves she freed, 200 people Castillon conned by getting them to buy passage to escape the Blight. But she lies about the relic, the Tome of Koslun, claiming that she doesn't know what it is, and moving on by just floating the idea that Castillon just gave her the assignment to get her killed for freeing the slaves. Isabela laments the loss of her ship and many of her crew on this job, noting she knew some of them at least ten years.

Hawke promises to help retrieve the relic, despite Isabela's terrible vagueness, and in turn the pirate says she'll tag along with Hawke to help out with things while she works on finding the relic. She'll let the mage know if any information crops up. And in the meantime, she has a room in the Hanged Man, if Hawke is ever looking for...company.
