Memory - Prime Suspect

Aveline wants Hawke to get involved in an investigation of young women’s deaths. Emeric has been looking into this stuff since act one, years ago in game time. He has Hawke and party investigate Gascard DuPuis’ estate for evidence; place is overflowing with hostile spirits and other such things that tend to pop up around blood mages. Spooky creepy place in general. There’s notes thanking DuPuis for “shipments,” and promising an artifact as payment. Maybe shipments is a euphemism for the victims.

Once they find DuPuis, he’s with a terrified woman, Alessa. He claims to be hunting the real murderer, and has been resorting to blood magic to do it. Hawke spares him, since he doesn’t seem to be the true culprit. But he’s still going to have to go. Note: although Isabela typically disapproves of decisions to get involved in heroics and nosing into other people’s businesses, due to the circumstances and her personal history she is one of two party members who would actually disapprove of letting this one go. Aveline is the other person who’s pissed about this decision, as captain of the city guard.

On returning to the Gallows, the party finds Emeric missing. A templar, Moira, says he’d gone to a meeting requested in a letter from. . .Hawke? Hawke didn’t send him a letter. Running out to the meeting location, the party finds Emeric has been led into an alleyway and murdered by shades and abominations. DuPuis isn’t the end of this, as there must have been another blood mage implementing Emeric’s trap.

Hawke tells Moira she doesn’t think DuPuis did it. Moira indicates the investigation will continue. Emeric was clearly onto something.
